October: Grappa

October: Grappa

Welcome to October! Autumn is in full swing and we are featuring the beautiful colour ‘Grappa’, a very deep, mysterious, warm and sexy purple. It reminds me of glossy ripe aubergines on a mild, sunny Indian summer afternoon. The reason why I am choosing ‘Grappa’ this month is because October is my little girl's birthday month and her favourite colour is not pink - no, it is purple! She is obsessed with purple!

So I hope you agree that I must dedicate this month to my little one’s favourite colour. Grappa, a colour by Benjamin Moore is so dark it can almost be seen as a neutral colour and therefore works well with burnt orange, taupe and even metallics such as silver and bronze. I love eggplant in interior design, as it is such a warm and regal colour! But as it is very dark and rich you have to consider different elements to make it work. Always look at the lighting in the room, whether it is natural light coming through windows or doors or artificial light created by chandeliers, table lamps or spotlights. The room has be be well lit otherwise it will look to dark and claustrophobic. Choose textures that are not too heavy and overpowering, otherwise the room will look too heavy and stiff. Linens and cottons are a great choice, but I would be careful with heavy velvets and suedes. Use contrasting furniture and accessories. You can upholster chairs in a light shade such a beige or taupe or use colourful rugs and cushions to fill the room with energy. So let's be regal this month and enjoy a bit of ‘Grappa’.
